1 Hancock, John
(1737-1793) Хэнкок, ДжонБостонский купец, политический деятель. Один из лидеров движения за независимость английских колоний в Северной Америке. Унаследовал крупное состояние, был одним из богатейших людей Бостона, внес крупные средства на цели этой борьбы. Первым вступил в открытую борьбу с английской таможней в Бостоне. В 1770 стал председателем Комитета города Бостона, возглавившего сопротивление колониальным властям. В 1774 и 1775 был председателем Массачусетского провинциального конгресса. Как председатель Континентального конгресса [ Continental Congresses] первым поставил свою подпись [ John Hancock] под Декларацией независимости [ Declaration of Independence].
